Laundry sheets universally contain a plastic polymer called Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA), which dissolves and biodegrades during washing, unlike persistent microplastics from synthetic clothing fibers. While laundry sheets reduce plastic packaging waste and may contribute less to microplastic pollution than other detergents, the main microplastic source remains fabric fibers. Consumers can further reduce pollution by choosing natural fibers and washing practices that minimize fiber shedding.
